Mesoscopic fluctuations in the Fermi-liquid regime of the Kondo problem

چکیده
We consider the low temperature regime of the mesoscopic Kondo problem, and in particular the relevance of a Fermi-liquid description of this regime. Mesoscopic fluctuations of both the quasiparticle energy levels and the corresponding wavefunctions are large in this case. These mesoscopic fluctuations make the traditional approach to Fermi-liquids impracticable, as it assumes the existence of a limited number of relevant parameters. We show here how this difficulty can be overcome and discuss the relationship between the resulting Fermi-liquid description “à la Nozières” and the mean field slave fermion

From weak- to strong-coupling mesoscopic Fermi liquids
We study mesoscopic fluctuations in a system in which there is a continuous connection between two distinct Fermi liquids, asking whether the mesoscopic variation in the two limits is correlated. The particular system studied is an Anderson impurity coupled to a finite mesoscopic reservoir described by the random matrix theory, a structure which can be realized using quantum dots. We use the sl...

The current noise through a mesoscopic quantum dot is calculated and analyzed in the Fermi liquid regime of the SU(N) Kondo model. The results connect the Johnson-Nyquist noise to the shot noise for an arbitrary ratio of voltage and temperature, and show that temperature corrections are sizable in the usual experiments. For the experimentally relevant SU(4) case, quasiparticle interactions are ...

متن کاملMesoscopic fluctuations in quantum dots in the Kondo regime
Properties of the Kondo effect in quantum dots depend sensitively on the coupling parameters and so on the realization of the quantum dot—the Kondo temperature itself becomes a mesoscopic quantity. Assuming chaotic dynamics in the dot, we use random matrix theory to calculate the distribution of both the Kondo temperature and the conductance in the Coulomb blockade regime. We study two experime...
متن کاملLuttinger liquids and composite fermions in nanostructures: what is the nature of the edge states in the fractional quantum Hall regime?
We study the Aharonov–Bohm conductance oscillations of a constriction with an antidot in the fractional quantum Hall regime using a recently proposed composite-fermion Fermi liquid theory, and also using Wen’s chiral Luttinger liquid theory extended to include mesoscopic effects. The predictions of the composite-fermion Fermi liquid theory are very similar to standard Fermi liquid theory and ar...
